Hi there! These days I use mostly Pebeo Colorex inks, Holbein gouache, an old set of cube watercolors (I don’t remember what brand but if you want really nice ones, I’ve been eyeballing these Sennelier sets), and some Dr. Ph. Martin’s that I stole from my high school’s supply closet 13 years ago.
No art material is going to be magical (although I’ve had my suspicions about the Carbon Ink Pen) the most important thing is finding what works for you. Maybe you’re not a marker/pencil person, maybe you’re a paint person. Try it out! Get together with your artist friends and test out all their pens and paper until they ask you to stop.
Just don’t make art with food, I stopped doing that after a rotten banana incident in 99’. Turns out plaster is VERY porous.
